Camp ministry gets space to grow thanks to Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Foundation

For the past eight years, Lutherhaven Ministries of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho has gotten a special permit to conduct youth and family camps, church retreats, and outdoor environmental education at Shoshone Base Camp. Now, Lutherhaven is purchasing the camp, thanks to a grant from the  Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Foundation.

The grant of  $150,000 will cover half of the price and make it possible for Lutherhaven to buy the camp, a mountain retreat that is situated at the confluence of Shoshone Creek and the North Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River. As a result, Lutherhaven will be able to expand their ministry into the Silver Valley, the most economically depressed area in Idaho, and broaden their programs to reach campers of all ages.
Lutherhaven’s new camp will be a center for Lutheran retreat, recreation and renewal based on the company’s vision of “nurturing faith as a regional and national resource for powerful programs that equip leaders, strengthen communicates, and celebrate creation.”

Lutherhaven’s plans include increasing community service projects , adding “Dude Ranch” programming for youth and families, expanding their Outdoor Education ministry, as well as growing the number of Institute for Servant Leadership participants to capacity (the Institute is a Thrivent Financial for Lutherans-funded program that will help establish young adults in the lifestyles of service they can carry through adulthood).  To learn more about Lutherhaven Ministries, visit their website at www.lutherhaven.com.
